Tree Peony Has Suckers

Question From: Auburndale, Wisconsin, United States
Q: My tree peony has growth on the sides that bloom like a regular peony bush. Should that be trimmed off and how and when? I live in central Wi. Cold winters here.

Those are suckers sprouting from the root stock the tree peony is grafted to. Remove them ASAP. Best Nancy ad Happy Yardening.
