Trimmed Birch Trees Are Weeping Profusely

Question From: E. Cristwell - Demopolis, Alabama, United States
Q: We just trimmed three river birch trees and the limbs are weeping profusely; I am concerned that the trees may be damaged; could it possibly be or what can we do to encourage growth?

A: Ellen, Birch trees are weepers, especially at this time of the year. A layer of good compost and 3 inches of wood chip mulch around the base of the tree, will keep it happy. Do not allow the mulch to touch the trunk of the tree. Happy Yardening, Nancy
