Trumpet Vine Buds Are Distorting And Turning Black Before Blooming

Question From: Cheswick, Pennsylvania, United States
Q: My trumpetvine is about 20 years old,and has always bloomed nicely. It looks very healthy this year. However, most of the buds are turning somewhat distorted and black before opening and actually blooming. What could be going on? We have had an unusual amount of rain. However, other trumpetvines in the area are blooming well. I will greatly appreciate a response. Thank you.

Sounds like a fungal disease. Take a sample of the damaged vine to your local independent garden center - not a big box, for an Id and suggestion as to a fungicide product. Best Nancy
