Trumpet Vine Does Not Bloom

Question From: S. Cooper - Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States
Q: My problem is with trumpet vine. I live in Santa Fe. NM, and my cousin sent me this vine through the mail two years ago from the east coast. It comes up in the spring and is very thick with leaves, but the leaves are very dark green and small. It never has bloomed. It is near a masonry wall and in the sun but I do try to keep it well watered although, as you probably know, Santa Fe is very dry. Is there some special food I can use or do you think the problem is just lack of water? Would appreciate your advice.

A: It can take a few years for trumpet vines to flower. Too much fertlizer will impede the flowering. If the leaves are nice and green, carry on. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
