Trumpeter Vine Bush Leaves Are Shriveling And Falling Off

Question From: Richmond, Utah, United States
Q: My neighbor has two trumpeter vine bushes. One of them has leaves that are shriveling and falling off. I am sending a picture of it.

The damage appears to be physical, as if someone or some thing stripped the branches. Is there an animal about, maybe trying to get to a bird nest or some other resident in the vine? That would be my best guess. Best Nancy
