Question From: Arco, Idaho, United States
Q: my tulips appear to be healthy, however when the bud appears a short while later it dries up and never blooms. The plant appears to be healthy, but the flower itself never reaches maturity. It is just an empty shell.
A: The bitter cold weather that arrived early in the season may be the cause if the bulbs were planted a bit late in the season. A quick drop in temperatures prevented late planted bulbs from developing the protection mother nature provides that allows them to overwinter in the deep freeze. Try planting them earlier this fall.
