Tulip Poplar Tree Has Snipped Off Twigs Around Base

Question From: K. Dougherty - Dickson, Tennessee, United States
Q: my adult, mature 50 ft tulip poplar tree suddenly has a pile of snipped off twigs with green leaves attached around the base of the tree, almost as if a squirrel had taken the idea to just clear off a space in the tree. it is only around the base of the tree, and the crown is too high for me to see any nests or any changes there.

I suggest you talk to a certified arborist as to an accurate ID of the problem and how best to handle it for the safety of the tree. To find one in your area go to www.tcia.org and enter your zip code. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
