Tulip Tree Leaves Have Small Holes And Are Dropping Liquid

Question From: T. Hamilton - Eagle, Idaho, United States
Q: Tulip Tree leaves are droping liquid which may be sap and have small holes in them. Tree looks healthy except for a few dead branches. Neighboring trees (Maples were cut down last year due to unknown disease. I have treated (last spring) with Bayer Systemic time released insectacide and wondered if this was the best treatment.

A: Diseases of trees are plant specific so the problem with your Tulip tree is not a disease. I think you have a one or more woodpeckers at work. I would get an onsite inspection from a professional, a certified arborist. To find one in your area go to www.tcia.org. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
