Violet Rhododendron Leaves Have Rust Colored Splotches

Question From: A. Smith - WASHINGTON
Q: I have a Liams Violet Rhododendron that has leaves with rust colored splotches on them. No insect damage that I can see. Plant seems healthy outside of the discolored leaves. Any ideas?

Sounds like your Rhodie has the disease called rust. You will need to spray it with a fungicide labeled for use on Rhododendrons. Be sure to hit the undersides of the leaves. Rhodies have very shallow roots so be sure to water them in dry weather. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
