What Fertilizer To Use On Bleeding Hearts

Question From: Hillsboro, Oregon, United States
Q: what fertilizer(ratio should go on bleeding hearts

Bleeding hearts grow best in well draining soil that is rich in organic material. It really doesn't need fertilizing other than a thin layer of compost on the surface of the soil. To much fertilizer causes lush growth and also stress the plant. If you are not convinced I would sprinkle a quarter cup of Espoma Plant Tone around the plant early in spring for water it with Fish and Kelp fertilizer, such as Neptune's harvest.
