What Shade Ground Cover To Plant

Question From: R. McMurry - El Dorado, Arkansas, United States
Q: I live in south Arkansas, zone 8B. At the back edge of my yard, I have a drainage ditch. There are 8 pine trees, and 2 small dogwoods. I need a good ground cover that will grow and spread to help with erosion control. It will be in heavy shade. Any ideas?

I dig in zone 5 so am not familiar with plants that might do well in your area. I recommend you visit a good independent garden center in your area to see what's available. Botanical gardens are also good resources. Also the University of Arkansas has a cooperative extension. Do take care not to plant invasive species. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
