What Type Of Fertilizer To Use For Evergreen Trees

Question From: Pahrump, Nevada, United States
Q: We planted 60 Mondell Pine Trees in 2008/2009. I would like to use a fish fertilizer. Could you please tell me what I can use and how to apply. I understand about the base of the tree and width of branches but I am wondering if just putting the fertilizer in the tree well will work. What is best and how much do I use for 60 trees. There is a watering system that waters the trees but it is not really considered a drip system.

A: I can't begin to advise you on this question Willetta as I have no experience with installations of this size. You need to talk to a professional who has experience with large applications. I think you would be better off using a fish meal rather than a liquid. Professionals do not liquid fertilizers on evergreens. You may want to include other micro nutrients, so I would do a soil test first. As for amounts, read the application rates on the bag and do the math.
