Question From: L. Laxon - MAINE
Q: I have a four year old potted rosemary plant that is suddenly not doing very well. Some small spider web-like clumps are appearing, as if little critters are making a home for themselves by 'webbing in' three or four leaves. I found a tiny caterpillar in one of the clumps. I live in Maine and my rosemary spends summers outdoors, so lack of light or stagnant air do not seem to be a problem. In an effort to help the plant, I just repotted it and did some significant pruning, but I think the pests are the issue. Do you know what these pests might be and how to get rid of them?
You probably have spider mites. Not sure about the caterpillar. Bonide's Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew will take care of both. The active ingredient is Spinosad, a beneficial bacteria. It is safe for use on edibles. Reapply three times at 7 day intervals. I give my Rosemary a shower every couple weeks in winter-time. Best and Happy Yardening, Nancy
