When To Prune Evergreen Shrub That Is Growing Into Roof

Question From: Livonia, Michigan, United States
Q: I need to cut 3 to 4 feet off an evergreen shrub (not a Pine tree) that is growing into the roof and is difficult to trim. The shrub is about 12 feet high. Is the fall the best time to cut it, or is another season better? Thank you.

Wind may damage the structure or the shingles. Prune it now. That said, the very best time to prune evergreens is later winter or very early spring. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
