Question From: G. McLay - Niagara Falls, New York, United States
Q: Nancy: I would like to buy some Brown Lacewing eggs to hatch into larvae and adults to control Apple Maggot Flies. Brown Lacewing eggs are preferable to Green Lacewing because both the larvae and adults of the Brown Lacewings would attack the Apple Maggot Fly larvae. I do not want to use pesticides to kill the Apple Maggot Flies; they have infested my pears and cherries as well as my apples, and other non-pesticide measures such as the red sticky balls have not worked. I am in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and I have also read that the Brown Lacewings are hardier for overwintering than the Green Lacewings in cold climates such as ours, so that is another reason why I would prefer the Brown Lacewings. If you could tell me where I could purchase Brown Lacewing eggs (or larvae), it would be greatly appreciated. (Below I used a U.S. zip code for Niagara Falls, N.Y., which is the U.S. city closest to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, since our postal codes are not accepted in the zip code space.) Garry McLay
A: Sorry Gary, I do not have that information. Best Nancy
