Why Are All Kinds Of Starter Plants Stringy And Dying

Question From: L. Paulson - COLORADO
Q: Hey Nancy, I am having a really hard time getting the saplings of moringa, or hibiscus, nasturtium and even veggies kale, Swiss chard, spinach and collards to grow well inside from seed. They all get stringy then wilt away and die. I have even purchased a grow lamp but that didn't turn anything around. What am I doing wrong??

A: For one you are planting too early. Check with your County Extension for recommended times. Also go to the website on the seed packets. They usually have lots of advice on planting times. The plants should be kept about 6. inches below the bulb to be effective. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
