Why Are Spring Flowering Trees Drying Up And Dying

Question From: P. Eisenman - Utica, Michigan, United States
Q: Why are most spring flowering ornamental trees dying? Trees in our neighborhood are watered yet these and some maples look like they are drying up. Have not seen anything in the paper about this.

I have been writing about problems with trees and shrubs for the past couple of years. Maples are not equipped to handle the record breaking temperatures and drought like conditions we have experienced the past two summers. Nor are other trees and shrubs. (Maples are experiencing leaf scorch). When under stress they are vulnerable to all sorts of diseases. Irrigation systems are timed for the needs of lawns not trees. I am recommending people have their trees inspected by certified arborists for recommendations as every tree has different needs. To find one in your are go to www.tcia.org and enter your zip code.
