Wild Violet Leaves Are Curled Shut

Question From: K. Bernasconi - CALIFORNIA
Q: The wild violets in my California garden have leaves which are curled shut, lumpy in appearance. Is this an insect and what kind is it? How do I get rid of it?

A:

Two things come to mind. Unseasonably cold temperatures or chemical burn. Could also be some sort of a pest. Take samples to your local independent garden center for a more accurate analysis. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
