Will Anthracnose That Killed A Dogwood Tree Harm Another If Planted In Same Spot

Question From: D. Mellace - NEW JERSEY
Q: I would like to plant a Cherokee Red Dogwood in a location where another 30 year old dogwood recently died due to anthracnose. Will the fungus possibly spread (from the ground) to the new tree?

A: Anthracnose is a soil-borne disease so I would not replace the tree with another dogwood. Choose another specie. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
