Will Hydrangea Survive If Planted Near Trees

Question From: D. Henningsen - MICHIGAN
Q: My house faces North and I have two large trees from 20 to 24 feet north of the house. Can I plant Hydrangea plants in the about three feet from the house and not be bothered by the tree roots from those trees a Little leaf Linden and Norway Maple? Thanks

A: I don't think you will have much success. The Hydrangea will not be able to compete with the tree roots for moisture in the hot dry weather we now experience in summer. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
