Question From: M. DeBacco - Moneta, Virginia, United States
Q: My Kouse finally bloomed last year? or year before- Magnificent- struggling for enough sunshineBy cutting other tree branches on our wooded lot we have increased sunshine. May 1 2016 in va. - tree appears very healthy-full of leaves. Is it going to bloom this year? Should I be seeing some form of bud by now.?
A: I presume you are referring to a Kousa Dogwood. Will it bloom - I haven't a clue. They bloom on old wood so if you prune them in fall and spring you cut off all the flower buds. High nitrogen fertilizer, such as grass fertilizer will also zap the flowers. It needs at least 4 to 6 hours of sun a day. Best of Luck, Nancy
