Q: Another fig mulch question. We lost our fig tree to the hard freeze this past winter. Instead of hiring someone to come remove it we got a mulcher. Now my question: I am topping the garden with the mulcher from our departed flight tree and want to make sure the mulch will not disturb the balance in our soil. Nitrogen etc…
A: Your best bet is to compost the shredded wood before using it as a mulch. Fresh wood mulch can leach nitrogen from the soil. Best Nancy and Happy Yardening
