Question From: C. Claybaugh - Boise, Idaho, United States
Q: I'm thinking of planting Virginia Creeper along the 6' tall vinyl fence by my driveway, but I don't want to ruin the appearance of the fence if someone removes the creeper some day. Our first idea for the fence was to cover it with climbing roses, but the roses did not do well. We had put welded wire galvanized fence panels with 6" holes just in front of the vinyl fence for the roses to climb on. Those panels will be perfect for the creeper to climb on, but if the creeper also puts sticky pads on the vinyl fence I'm afraid it will disfigure the white vinyl fence. What do you think?
A: I agree with you, Those pads are called hold fasts, and that they do. How about a sweet autumn clematis. They bloom in the fall covering the growth with lovely little white flowers. Google for photos and more information. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
