Yellowwood Tree Leaves Have White Spots And Burned Edges

Question From: Emmett, Idaho, United States
Q: We have a new Yellowwood (probably 2 yrs) from Forest Farm that shows damage to leaves. White spots that can be felt and burned edges. We have found no earwigs, aphids, grasshoppers etc. Forest Farms, where we purchased the tree, doesn't know either. I'm going to send a couple pictures. Possibly you can identify? Thank you.

A: Mary, I am not a trained tree doctor. I suggest you take live samples to the headquarters of a certified arborist in your locale or have one make an onsite inspection. The photos you sent are fuzzy when enlarged so emailing is not going to work. It could well be a combination of frost damage, a fungal disease and a caterpillar attack. You need a pro to sort it out.
