Young Boxwoods Have Become Bare On Lower Half

Question From: S. Stephany - NORTH CAROLINA
Q: My boxwoods are young and only about 2 feet tall. They have become bare on about the lower half. What causes this and what is the remedy?

A:

Sounds like leaf minor. Treatment with an insecticide listed for this insect should be done in early spring, about the time the Weigelas bloom. Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew containing Spinosad works well. That combined with a systemic applied to the soil in June should take care of the problem. Be sure to read all the instructions and follow them carefully. Best Nancy and Happy Gardening.
