Young Fir Tree Turning Brown From Base Up And Bark Looks Like It Is Peeling Off

Question From: L. Greenwood - New Albany, Indiana, United States
Q: A three year old fir is going brown from the base of the branch up leaving a healthy last eight inches or so. The bark looks as if it is peeling off. It is part of a large hedge and was extremely healthy until about two months ago. We had a wet Spring and now a hot summer but this is usual.

I recommend you have an onsite inspection from a certified arborist. This trained tree doctor will be able to do better than guess, which may save the tree.
