Young Korean Fir Tree Bark Has Peeled In Section

Question From: Stoughton, Massachusetts, United States
Q: Hi Nancy, About 7 months ago, I bought this Korean fir tree online. I noticed at the base of the young tree, the bark has a section that has peeled. I believe this is how I received it. Is this normal or is it a sign of something serious? Thank you for your time and response. John

A: It's not normal. Looks like some sort of canker or other disease. I'm surprised it's still alive. You should have called the company upon receipt. .. It looks like the tree is growing indoors. This is not a tropical plant and would have eventually died if kept indoors. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
