Zinnia Flowers Are Very Small

Question From: D. Hall - Chico, California, United States
Q: Hello, I started some zinnia seeds on good Friday and have transplanted them in a very large clay pot. They get full sun until about 1:00 pm and plenty of water. The problem I am having is the flowers are very, very small and don't look mature. The largest flower I have so far from my zinnia's is about 1 inch in diameter and most of them have very few peddles. I give them 10-15-10 liquid fertilizer once every 10 to 14 days. The package stated the flowers should be large. This is my first try at zinnias. What did I do wrong?

A: They may need more sun. Zinnias need 6 hours or more a day. They may also have become over-crowded. Lastly the seeds may have come from smaller flowers. It happens sometimes. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
