Question From: P. Luther - Greenville, South Carolina, United States
Q: I have lots of creeping phlox. I have never had a problem with it until last year. After it bloomed, I started seeing what appeared to be yellow/orange strings on it (just one area and only one type). It covers the plant. I can find no reference anywhere of anyone else having this problem. Do you know what it is and how can I get rid of it. It doesn't seem to kill the plants but it looks terrible because it will eventually cover the entire plant if I don't keep pulling it off. I would appreciate any help you can provide.
I believe your plant had a creeping vine called Dodder. The recommended control is to remove the host plant along with the weed and toss it in the trash. Google photo of Dodder for a more positive Id. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
