Crepe Myrtle Trees Have Brown Leaves And Few Flowers

Question From: R. Soreil - VIRGINIA
Q: Virginia Beach is famous for it's beautiful Crape Myrtles. They line our streets and most everyone has them in their landscape for their continuous blooming all summer. However, this year has been miserable for them. Hardly any flowering, thin foliage, and now zero fall color. Instead of the flaming red foliage there nothing but brown leaves. What's happening to our beautiful trees? Was it the weather or one of the diseases from the south of us? Help, is there anything we can do to save our trees?

A:

Ron, I feel your pain. Trees all over the United States are under siege. I recommend you contact a certified arborist in your area and have your trees inspected. These trained tree doctors can give you more than a guess. Lack of water and intense heat has certainly had its effect. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
