Dahlias Have No Stems On Flowers

Question From: k. lake - VERMONT
Q: I have 2 dahlias, the same variety, the tall variety. The plants are very robust, and the blooms are gorgeous. However, there are no stems on the flowers! As the flower blooms, more buds and leaves grow up past the flowere, and soon cover it. It is as if the flower grows directly from the stock. What could possibly cause this? All of their requirements are being met. Thanks! Kristine

A:

Google to see if you can find a dahlia group in vermont and e-mail them photos for an ID. If all your dahlias are the same variety it could be the growth habit. If not you may have a virus. Best Nancy.
