Daphne Leaves Are Turning Yellow And Dropping Off

Question From: E. Mc Kenna - Bettembourg, Luxembourg, Luxembourg
Q: Hi Nancy, my Daphne leaves are turning yellow and dropping off, it is in a large stone pot facing East for five years now and no problems, just coming into bud now as always Should I give it some Iron. Can you help me please.

A: Erick, Daphnes are finicky plants and can up and die overnight for no reason. They need alkaline soil, and good drainage. Yours may be potbound but the problem is they resent disturbance, so repotting may kill it. Overwatering may the issue if it was outside in the winter. All that said, spraying the plant with chelated iron may put it right back on track. I might also spread some good compost around the surface face of the soil. It likes humus rich soil and probably could use a boost about now. Good Luck, Nancy
