Question From: Arco, Idaho, United States
Q: my tulips appear to be healthy, however when the bud appears a short while later it dries up and never blooms. The plant appears to be healthy, but the flower itself never reaches maturity. It is just an empty shell.
The bitter cold weather that arrived early in the season may be the cause if the bulbs were planted a bit late in the season. A quick drop in temperatures prevented late planted bulbs from developing the protection mother nature provides that allows them to overwinter in the deep freeze. Try planting them earlier this fall.
