Fence As A Physical Barrier

A barrier type fence can be the solution to many of the pest animals that might harrass you and your plants including, Armadillos, Chipmunks, Deer, Dogs or Cats, Opossum, Rabbits, Raccoons, Skunks, and the ever loving Woodchuck or Groundhog.

The size and the design of a fence will vary depending on which of the above thugs are harvesting your landscape. Armadillos, Chipmunks and Woodchucks can dig under a fence, so to bar them the fence needs to go down below the soil level six inches or so. Raccoons and Cats can climb fence in most cases, so some means must be devised to prevent that kind of access. And Deer can jump a fence that is four or five feet high. In each of the files on pest animals we discuss dealing with these differences in some detail. In the end, while we all would like a fence that is not unattractive and is reasonably priced, the bottom line is whether the fence works. Does it bar the particular pest animal that is aggravating you to death.
