Pear, Ornamental

Ornamental Pear (Pyrus sp.)
Certain kinds of pear trees are very popular as ornamental trees suitable for residential yards and gardens. They offer a handsome combination of spring flowers, attractive shape and colorful autumn foliage. Because they do not bear fruit, they require very little attention and are remarkably problem free. The most popular ornamental pear tree is the Callery Pear. It is very tolerant of restricted space, poor soil and wind. The Ussurian Pear is another ornamental tree but more hardy than the Callery. Some types of these ornamental pear trees have thorns, or spines, while others are thornless.
