Snowbell (Styrax sp.)
Snowbell trees are not often found in the home landscape and they should be much more popular. They are a medium sized tree with lovely flowers in the late spring, some fall color, and interesting bark in the winter. They are particularly handy in a smaller yard. Pass the word.

Fragrant Snowbell (Styrax obassia) Mature height is 20 to 30’ with a spread of 15 to 25’. Growth rate is moderate. White flowers in late spring to early summer. Zones (5) 6 through 8, full sun in north and partial shade in the south, well drained acidic soil

  • This medium sized deciduous shrub is covered with masses of pure white snow-ball like flower clusters in late spring.
  • To continue the interest, leaves turn purplish red before dropping in the fall.
  • Full sun; average soil and water. To 4 to 6 feet tall, but can be clipped shorter.
