Using Birch In The Yard

The peeling, chalky white bark of paper birch, young river and European birches is an eye-catching accent, especially near a group of contrasting evergreens. Trees with multiple stems can be especially attractive, lending an informal feeling to the landscape. The bark of many types of birches turns darker as they mature, becoming reddish or yellow, and eventually dark brown.
