SOLVING EGGPLANT PROBLEMS
This probably seems like a long list of problems that might bother your eggplants. An eggplant in good soil, properly cared for with lots of sun and warmth has few problems. Probably the most common problem is Flea Beetles (see below for solutions). The chart below lists the most common problems first by the symptom and then the cause, with links to files about each pest or disease.
Brownish spots on leaves; damage is particularly bad during wet weather when fruit may develop small, tannish cankers which later rot --- Fruit Rot
Yellowing of foliage and gradual defoliation; plants may become stunted--- Verticillium Wilt, A Fungal Disease
Leaves wrinkled or curled; discolored, stunted, tend to fall off--- Aphids
Holes chewed in leaves--- Colorado Potato Beetles
Leaves riddled with shot-holes; plant weakens--- Flea Beetle
Leaves skeletonized--- Tomato Hornworm
Tip of leaves brown, internal larvae trails visible. Sometimes leaves skeletonized and rolled up--- Leafminer
Leaves stippled, yellowing or bronze; dry out and (drop)may be webbing visible; sometimes galls form on leaves--- Spider Mites
Ragged holes in middle of leaves--- Slugs
Weakened plant, leaves yellowed, appears like flying dandruff when foliage disturbed--- Whiteflies
White spots on leaves; eventually entire leaf is covered with powder--- Powdery Mildew, A Fungal Disease
